About Pediatric Cancer
Every three minutes, a family's life will be turned upside down as they receive the devastating news that their child has cancer. Before their 20th birthday, about 1 in 285 children in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer.
Unlike many adult cancers, childhood cancers are not related to lifestyle factors and little can be done to prevent them. Finding cures for every child is a constant challenge as there are over a dozen types of pediatric cancer and countless subtypes.
Many types of treatment are available for children with cancer. The type of treatment each child receives depends on their type of cancer and how advanced it is. Common treatments include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, and stem cell transplant.
Treatments can often be an uncomfortable and emotional experience for children and their families. While friends are playing sports or going to school, children with cancer are forced to change their normal routines as they go through treatment and recovery.
At We Believe, we work every day to provide comfort to children and families dealing with pediatric cancer. Every three minutes worldwide, a child is diagnosed with cancer - what will you do to help?
